High-quality Red Angus bulls provide excellent options for buyers at Midland

Lots 750 through 788 will feature a powerful set of Red Angus bulls at the 2020 Midland Bull Test Sale. These bulls will sell on April 2.

            During the Midland Bull Test, the Red Angus bulls were split into Group 1 Red Angus Bulls and Group 1 Red Angus Fall Bulls. The Group 1 Red Angus Bulls had an average daily gain (ADG) of 3.21 and an average weight per day of gain (WDA) of 2.80. The Group 1 Red Angus Fall Bulls had an average ADG of 3.20 and an average WDA of 2.52. 

Group 1 ADG

            The top-ranking Red Angus ADG bull was consigned by Green Meadow Angus of Gleason, Wis. and the son of Brown CCFP Efficient C5454. Lot 788 had an ADG 3.74 and a WDA of 2.93. His EPDs are BW -1.5, WW +56, M +27, YW +93, RFI 1.32, Eff 107 and MBT 115. 

            Next was lot 786 of Gragg Farms in Boone, N.C. This bull was also sired by Brown CCFP Efficient C5454 and had an ADG of 3.45. His WDA was 2.99 and he has EPDs of BW -3.3, WW +56, M +25, YW +92, RFI 4.48, Eff 92 and MBT 106. 

            Lot 780 had the third-highest ADG in this category of 3.28. This bull was consigned by Knaub Cattle Company of Lodge Grass, Mont. and was sired by LSF MEW X-Factor 6693D. He had a WDA of 2.76 and EPDs of BW -1.6, WW +67, M +24, YW +110, RFI 1.76, Eff 86 and MBT 99. 

Group 1 WDA

            Leading the Group 1 Red Angus WDA leaders was lot 786 of Gragg Farms in Boone, N.C. The son of Brown CCFP Efficient C5454 had a WDA of 2.99 and an ADG of 3.45. His EPDs are BW -3.3, WW +56, M +25, YW +92, RFI 4.48, Eff 92 and MBT 106.

            In second position was lot 784 with a WDA of 2.98. Lot 784 had an ADG of 3.07 and EPDs of BW 0, WW +66, M +19, YW +114, RFI -0.31, Eff 93 and MBT 103. He was sired by LSF KCC Iron Ore 32A and consigned by Knaub Cattle Company of Lodge Grass, Mont. 

            Pulling in the third position was lot 788 with a WDA of 2.93. This bull is from Green Meadow Angus of Gleason, Wis. and the son of Brown CCFP Efficient C5454. He had an ADG of 3.74 and EPDs of BW -1.5, WW +56, M +27, YW +93, RFI 1.32, Eff 107 and MBT 115. 

Group 1 Eff

            Leading the way in the Group 1 Red Angus Eff category was lot 788 of Green Meadow Angus in Gleason, Wis. with an Eff of 107. This bull is the son of Brown CCFP Efficient C5454. He had an ADG of 3.74, WDA of 2.93 and EPDs of BW -1.5, WW +56, M +27, YW +93, RFI 1.32 and MBT 115.

            Next was lot 785 with an Eff of 106. Lot 785 was consigned by Knaub Cattle Company of Lodge Grass, Mont. and is the son of LSF KCC Iron Ore 32A. He had an ADG of 2.48 and WDA of 3.05. His EPDs are BW -1.0, WW +60, M +23, YW +103, RFI -2.47 and MBT 105. 

            In third was lot 782 of Knaub Cattle Company in Lodge Grass, Mont. with an Eff of 101. This bull was sired by HXC Declaration 5504C and had an ADG of 2.9 and WDA of 3.64. His EPDs are BW +0.2, WW +70, M +24, YW +122, RFI 0.26 and MBT 103. 

Group 1 MBT

            Coming in with the highest MBT in this category was lot 788, consigned by Green Meadow Angus of Gleason, Wis. and sired by Brown CCFP Efficient C5454. This bull had an MBT of 115. He had an ADG of 3.74 and WDA of 2.93. His EPDs are BW -1.5, WW +56, M +27, YW +93, RFI 1.32 and Eff 107.

            Second was lot 786 with an MBT of 106. Lot 786 was consigned by Gragg Farms in Boone, N.C. and sired by Brown CCFP Efficient C5454. He had an ADG of 3.45 and WDA of 2.99. His EPDs are BW -3.3, WW +56, M+25, YW +92, RFI 4.48 and Eff 92.

            Lot 785 had the third-highest MBT of 105. Lot 785 was consigned by Knaub Cattle Company of Lodge Grass, Mont. and is the son of LSF KCC Iron Ore 32A. He had an ADG of 2.48 and WDA of 3.05. His EPDs are BW -1.0, WW +60, M +23, YW +103, RFI -2.47 and Eff 106.

 Group 1 Fall Bulls ADG

            Sutphin Cattle Company of Lamar, Colo. consigned all of the Red Angus fall bulls ADG leaders.

            Lot 772 had the highest-ranking ADG of 3.49 and a WDA of 2.27. This bull was sired by DVO Prospector 300D and has EPDs of BW -5.8, WW +42, M +25, YW +57, RFI 3.11, Eff 98 and MBT 107. 

            Tieing for the second position were lots 762 and 754 with an ADG of 3.45.

            Lot 762 was sired by 5L Out in Front 5084-60D and had a WDA of 2.53. His EPDs are BW -1.7, WW +51, M +21, YW +84, RFI 2.16, Eff 99 and MBT 109.

            Lot 754 was sired by DVO Prospector 300D and had a WDA of 2.71. His EPDs are BW -2.4, WW +56, M +19, YW +79, RFI -2.25, Eff 108 and MBT 115. 

            There was also a two-way tie between lots 767 and 756 for the third-highest ADG in the category. Both bulls posted an ADG of 3.40.

            Lot 767 had a WDA of 2.42 and EPDs of BW -1.2, WW +54, M +30, YW +94, RFI 2.25, Eff 96 and MBT 106. He is the son of Bieber Oly Z260. 

            Lot 756 was sired by 5L Out in Front 5084-60D. He had a WDA of 2.77 and EPDs of BW -0.2, WW +58, M +21, YW +98, RFI 0.35, Eff 105 and MBT 106. 

Group 1 Fall Bulls WDA

            Again, Sutphin Cattle Company of Lamar, Colo. consigned the leaders of the Red Angus fall bulls in the WDA category. 

            In first place was lot 774, sired by DVO Perfect Hand 323D, with a WDA of 2.95. This bull had an ADG of 3.24 and EPDs of BW +0.3, WW +63, M +20, YW +108, RFI -3.70, Eff 107 and MBT 107. 

            Lot 756 had the second-highest WDA of 2.77. He was sired by 5L Out In Front 5084-60D. He had an ADG of 3.40 and EPDs of BW -0.2, WW +58, M +21, YW +98, RFI 0.35, Eff 105 and MBT 106.

            Lots 770 and 754 tied with the third-highest WDA of 2.71.

            Lot 770 was sired by DVO Prospector 300D and had an ADG of 3.24. His EPDs are BW -2.3, WW +60, M +21, YW +88, RFI -1.63, Eff 109 and MBT 115.

            Lot 754 was also sired by DVO Prospector 300D. He had an ADG of 3.45 and EPDs of BW -2.4, WW +56, M +19, YW +79, RFI -2.25, Eff 108 and MBT 115.

Group 1 Fall Bulls Eff

            First place on the leaderboards for Eff was a two-way tie between lots 757 and lot 770. Both bulls had an Eff of 109 and were consigned by Sutphin Cattle Company of Lamar, Colo. The two bulls are both sons of DVO Prospector 300D. 

            Lot 757 had an ADG of 3.36 and a WDA of 2.45. His EPDs are BW -5.1, WW +54, M +27, YW +78, RFI -0.61 and MBT 117. 

            Lot 770 had an ADG of 3.24 and a WDA of 2.71.  This bull has EPDs of BW -2.3, WW +60, M +21, YW +88, RFI -1.63 and MBT 115.  

            In second place was lot 754 with an Eff of 108. He had an ADG of 3.45 and WDA of 2.70. His EPDs are BW -2.4, WW +56, M +19, YW +79, RFI -2.25 and MBT 115. He was sired by DVO Prospector 300D and consigned by Sutphin Cattle Company of Lamar, Colo. 

            Rounding out the leaders for Group 1 Red Angus Eff are lots 763, 771 and 774 with the third-highest Eff of 107. These three bulls were all consigned by Sutphin Cattle Company of Lamar, Colo. 

            Lot 763 is the son of DVO Prospector 300D. This bull had an ADG of 3.07 and WDA of 2.64. His EPDs are BW -2.5, WW +57, M +21, YW +79, RFI -1.04 and MBT 108. 

            Lot 771, sired by 5L Out In Front 5084-60D, had an ADG of 3.15 and WDA of 2.54. His EPDs are BW -2.4, WW +58, M +25, YW +93, RFI -0.88 and MBT 109. 

            Lot 774 had an ADG of 3.24 and WDA of 2.95. His EPDs are BW +0.3, WW +63, M +20, YW +108, RFI -3.70 and MBT 107. He was sired by DVO Perfect Hand 323D.

Group 1 Fall Bulls MBT

Sutphin Cattle Company of Lamar, Colo. consigned all of the Red Angus Group 1 fall bulls MBT leaders.  

            In first place was lot 757, sired by DVO Prospector 300D, with an MBT of 117. Lot 757 had an ADG of 3.36 and a WDA of 2.45. His EPDs are BW -5.1, WW +54, M +27, YW +78, RFI -0.61 and Eff 109.

            Lot 754 and lot 770 tied for the second-highest MBT of 115. Both bulls were sired by DVO Prospector 300D. 

            Lot 754 had an ADG of 3.45 and WDA of 2.70. His EPDs are BW -2.4, WW +56, M +19, YW +79, RFI -2.25 and Eff 108. 

            Lot 770 had an ADG of 3.24 and a WDA of 2.71.  This bull has EPDs of BW -2.3, WW +60, M +21, YW +88, RFI -1.63 and Eff 109.  

            Another two-way tie existed between lots 762 and 771 for the third-highest MBT of 109. Both bulls were sired by 5L Out In Front 5084-60D. 

            Lot 762 had an ADG of 3.45 and WDA of 2.53. His EPDs are BW -1.7, WW +51, M +21, YW +84, RFI 2.16 and Eff 99.

            Lot 771 had had an ADG of 3.15 and WDA of 2.54. His EPDs are BW -2.4, WW +58, M +25, YW +93, RFI -0.88 and Eff 107. 

Champion Sire Group – MBT Index

            Sutphin Cattle Company of Lamar, Colo. consigned the Champion Red Angus Sire Group. Lots 754, 757 and 770 were sired by DVO Prospector 300D and posted an average MBT Index of 116.

World Champion Pen of Three

            Sutphin Cattle Company of Lamar, Colo. also consigned the Champion Red Angus Pen of Three with lots 754, 757 and 770. The group was sired by DVO Prospector 300D and posted an average MBT Index of 116.
