Handful of Herefords make strong showing at 2020 Midland Bull Test

A handful of Hereford bulls made a strong showing at the 2020 Midland Bull Test. These bulls, lots 850 through 857, are slated to sell April 2 in Columbus, Mont. at the big event. 

            The Hereford bulls were split into Group 2 Bulls and Group 1Fall Bulls. The Group 2 Hereford Bulls had an average daily gain (ADG) of 2.97 and an average weight per day of age (WDA) of 2.92. The Group 1 Fall Bulls had an average ADG of 3.17 and an average WDA of 2.85. The leaders in each category are as follows. 

Group 1 Fall Bulls ADG

            Lot 858 of Southern Cattle Company in Marianna, Fla. posted the highest ADG of 3.78. This bull had a WDA of 2.68 and is the son of CMR GVP MR Maternal 156T. His EPDs are BW +3.2, WW +59, M +32, YW +91, RFI 2.23 and Eff 104. 

            Next was lot 850 with an ADG of 3.24. Consigned by Emmanuel Polled Herefords of Moses Lake, Wash. and sired by C Black Hawk Down ET, this bull had a WDA of 2.84 and EPDs of BW +3.1, M +28, YW +87, RFI 0.26 and Eff 96.

            In third was lot 851, also consigned by Emmanuel Polled Herefords of Moses Lake, Wash., with an ADG of 2.90. Lot 851 is the son of NJW 73S W18 Hometown 10Y EYT and had a WDA of 2.99. His EPDs are BW +2.6, WW +63, M +29, YW +97, RFI 2.29, Eff 89 and MBT 102.

Group 1 Fall Bulls WDA

            The bull with the leading WDA in this category was lot 851. Lot 851 had a WDA of 2.99. He was sired by NJW 73S W18 Hometown 10Y ET and consigned by Emmanuel Polled Hereford of Moses Lake, Wash. He has EPDs of BW +2.6, WW +63, M +29, YW +97, RFI 2.29, Eff 89 and MBT 102 and an ADG of 2.90.

            Coming in second was lot 852 with a WDA of 2.91. Lot 852 had an ADG of 2.77 and EPDs of BW +4.2, WW +58, M +30, YW +94, RFI -2.89, Eff 109 and MBT 100. He is a son of WLB Winchester Powerball 27A and consigned by Emannuel Polled Herefords of Moses Lake, Wash.  

            Rounding out the Hereford fall bulls WDA leaders was lot 850. He posted a WDA of 2.84. He was consigned by Emmanuel Polled Herefords of Moses Lake, Wash. and sired by C Black Hawk Down ET. He had an ADG of 3.24 and EPDs of BW +3.1, M +28, YW +87, RFI 0.26 and Eff 96.

Group 1 Fall Bulls Eff

            Lot 852 had the highest Eff of 109 in this category. This bull had an ADG of 2.77, a WDA of 2.91 and EPDs of BW +4.2, WW +58, M +30, YW +94, RFI -2.89 and MBT 100. He is a son of WLB Winchester Powerball 27A and consigned by Emannuel Polled Herefords of Moses Lake, Wash.  

            The second-highest Eff bull was lot 859 of Southern Cattle Company in Marianna, Fla. This bull posted an Eff of 105. He had an ADG of 2.65 and WDA of 2.52. He also has EPDs of BW +3.2, WW +50, M +30, YW +67 and RFI -1.92. He is a son of CMR GVP MR Maternal 156T.

            Southern Cattle Company of Marianna, Fla. also brought the third-ranking Eff bull, lot 858. Lot 858 had an Eff of 104, an ADG of 3.78 and WDA of 2.68. He was sired by CMR GVP MR Maternal 156T and has EPDs of BW +3.2, WW +59, M +32, YW +91 and RFI 2.23.

Group 1 Fall Bulls MBT

            Emmanuel Polled Herefords of Moses Lake, Wash. had the top two MBT leaders in the Hereford fall bulls category. 

Lot 851 led this group with an MBT of 102. This bull also had an ADG of 2.90, WDA of 2.99 and EPDs of BW +2.6, WW +63, M +29, YW +97, RFI 2.29 and Eff 89. This bull was sired by NJW 73S W18 Hometown 10Y ET.

            In second was lot 852 with an MBT of 100. This bull is a son of WLB Winchester Powerball 27A and had an ADG of 2.77 as well as a WDA of 2.91. His EPDs are BW +4.2, WW +58, M +30, YW +94, RFI -2.89 and Eff 109.

Group 2 ADG

            There was a two-way tie between lots 855 and 857 for the leading ADG of 3.36.

            Lot 855 also had a WDA of 3.05 and EPDs of BW +3.4, WW +50, M +32, YW +77, RFI -2.91, Eff 118 and MBT 108. This bull comes from Next Generation Genetics of Endeavor, Wis. and was sired by UPS Sensation 2296 ET. 

            Lot 857 of MGM Double M Farms in Endeavor, Wis. had a WDA of 2.71. His EPDs are BW +1.9, WW +60, M +23, YW +90, RFI -0.73, Eff 109 and MBT 103. He is a son of R Leader 6964.

            In the second place position was lot 853 with an ADG of 3.15. This bull also had a WDA of 3.10 and EPDs of BW +3.5, WW +63, M +29, YW +105, RFI -3.24, Eff 119 and MBT 109. He was consigned by Next Generation Genetics of Endeavor, Wis. and was sired by TH Frontier 174E. 

            The bull with the third-highest ADG was lot 854 of Next Generation Genetics with an ADG of 3.11. Lot 854 had a WDA of 2.99 and EPDs of BW +2.3, WW +64, M +29, YW +99, RFI -1.9, Eff 107 and MBT 100.  He is a son of UPS Sensation 2296 ET. 

Group 2 WDA

            Lot 853 had the leading WDA in the group of 3.10. This bull also had an ADG of 3.15 and EPDs of BW +3.5, WW +63, M +29, YW +105, RFI -3.24, Eff 119 and MBT 109. He was consigned by Next Generation Genetics of Endeavor, Wis. and was sired by TH Frontier 174E.

The bull with the second-highest WDA of 3.05 was lot 855. This bull was consigned by Next Generation Genetics of Endeavor, Wis. and sired by UPS Sensation 2296 ET. He had an ADG of 3.36 and EPDs of BW +3.4, WW +50, M +32, YW +77, RFI -2.91, Eff 118 and MBT 108. 

            MGM of Hartford, Wis. brought the third-highest WDA bull, lot 856. Lot 856 posted a WDA of 3.04 as well as an ADG of 2.82. He has EPDs of BW +3.6, WW +73, M +33, YW +115, RFI 1.17, Eff 95 and MBT 105. He is a son of R Leader 6964.

Group 2 Eff

            Lot 853 was also the leader in Eff. He posted an Eff of 119 as well as an ADG of 3.15 and WDA of 3.10. Consigned by Next Generation Genetics and sired by TH Frontier 174E, this bull had EPDs of BW +3.5, WW +63, M +29, YW +105, RFI -3.24 and MBT 109.

            Following close behind was lot 855 with an Eff of 118. Lot 855 had an ADG of 3.36, a WDA of 3.05 and EPDs of BW +3.4, WW +50, M +32, YW +77, RFI -2.91 and MBT 108. This bull comes from Next Generation Genetics of Endeavor, Wis. and was sired by UPS Sensation 2296 ET.

            Rounding out the top three Eff bulls was lot 857 with an Eff of 109. Lot 857 comes from MGM Double M Farms in Endeavor, Wis. and is a son of R Leader 6964. He had an ADG of 3.36 and WDA of 2.71. His EPDs are BW +1.9, WW +60, M +23, YW +90, RFI -0.73 and MBT 103.

 Group 2 MBT

            Again in MBT, lot 853 took the first place position with an MBT of 109. He posted an ADG of 3.15 and WDA of 3.10. Consigned by Next Generation Genetics and sired by TH Frontier 174E, this bull has EPDs of BW +3.5, WW +63, M +29, YW +105, RFI -3.24 and Eff 119.

            Lot 855 came in second with an MBT of 108. This bull was consigned by Next Generation Genetics of Endeavor, Wis. and sired by UPS Sensation 2296 ET. He had an ADG of 3.36, a WDA of 3.05 and EPDs of BW +3.4, WW +50, M +32, YW +77, RFI -2.91 and Eff 118.

            Lot 856 was third with an MBT of 105. MGM of Hartford, Wis. brought lot 856. He posted a WDA of 3.04 as well as an ADG of 2.82. He has EPDs of BW +3.6, WW +73, M +33, YW +115, RFI 1.17 and Eff 95. He is a son of R Leader 6964.
