The ranches of South Dakota Roundup highlights region in annual Winter Cattlemen’s Edition

Wyoming’s neighbor to the east is home to an abundance of farms, ranches and agribusinesses. South Dakota is a powerhouse of agriculture, with a great variety of operations across the state.
This winter, the Wyoming Livestock Roundup featured a selection of livestock producers and associated industry businesses from South Dakota for the 2020 Winter Cattlemen’s Edition. The edition features operations from across the Mount Rushmore State, some hailing from the predominately cropland of the eastern part of the state, to the sprawling ranches of the Black Hills.
Ranches and farms account for 4,322,000 acres throughout the state, with over 29,000 operations. Of those operations, 95 percent are family-owned.
USDA reports there are over 48,000 producers in the state.
South Dakota ranks 12th nationally in terms of in terms of the market value of agriculture products sold, which totaled $9,721,522,000.
